North Anthony Water Main Replacement -- First Meeting
Introduction
On June 7, 2024, City Utilities sent letters to all property owners in the affected area, notifying them of upcoming water main replacement on North Anthony
A Zoom meeting was scheduled for Thursday, June 20, 2004 at 6PM with Project Manager Austyn Smedberg
The meeting was attended by President Joseph Brennan; the following are his notes from the meeting:
Process
Old water mains will be replaced all along North Anthony
New pipe must be fed through the bore hole as it is drilled
This necessitates pre-positioning the pipe above ground to be fed into the hole as it is bored
Some excavation still needed, approximately every 500 feet for boreholes
Excavation is also needed for reconnecting water lines to each home
Old pipe will abandoned in place after disconnection
Disruptions
Traffic will be disrupted as pipe is positioned above ground on Anthony
There will be an approximate four-hour interruption to water service for each household as new connections are made
Contractor will repair all pavement that is broken, grass that needs replacement, etc.
Bore holes will measure 4 ft x 4 ft to 5 ft by 5 ft
Contractor will try to open and close holes the same day
People, especially children, and pets should be kept away from open bore holes
Contractors will put up signs warning people away from open bore holes
Some driveway approaches may be blocked while boreholes are being drilled
Persons with special needs who need to be dropped off close to their house should contact the contractor so that they can avoid blocking their driveway if at all possible (this will likely shift blockage to a neighbor)
The city has a program to replace lead lines on its easements
Replacement on the homeowner side is optional
Financial assistance is available
The level of assistance depends on income
But special pricing will be in effect for all homeowners while water main replacement is ongoing
If homeowners have been thinking about replacing their water lines, they can save a lot of money by doing it during this project
Conclusion
Another meeting will be scheduled with the contractor that submits the winning bid
